In Manila, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed new resident ambassadors from Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine, expressing hope for enhanced bilateral relations. The ceremonies took place at Malacañang, where Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, Sin Saream of Cambodia, and Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine presented their credentials.
President Marcos noted the potential for collaborative development, stating to the Colombian ambassador, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries.” Diplomatic ties with Colombia began on July 5, 1946, and roughly 100 Filipinos live in the country.
Cambodian Ambassador Sin expressed his commitment to promoting cooperation between the two nations for mutual prosperity. Marcos welcomed him, stating, “I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries and to strengthen what is already a very strong union.”
The Philippines and Cambodia have maintained diplomatic relations since August 20, 1957, with around 7,500 Filipinos currently residing in Cambodia. Ukrainian Ambassador Fediv expressed her readiness to foster bilateral relations focusing on peace and cooperation. Marcos reciprocated with a commitment to support peace efforts stating, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace.”
Since establishing diplomatic ties on April 7, 1992, approximately 24 Filipinos currently live in Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing connections between the nations.
