Accusations of Deadly Airstrikes Highlight Escalating Sudan Conflict

The RSF has accused the SAF of deadly airstrikes in North Darfur, leading to over 100 deaths. The UN has raised alarms over violence against civilians while the SAF has revealed control maps amid ongoing conflicts. The situation remains critical, impacting millions in Sudan as the humanitarian crisis deepens with no resolution in sight.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of conducting deadly airstrikes on Tora market, North Darfur, which reportedly resulted in over 100 fatalities and many injuries. The accusation, reported by Sudan Tribune, has not been addressed by the Sudanese army, according to Xinhua news agency.

A UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, expressed grave concern over the escalating violence against civilians, referencing both the recent airstrike on Tora and an RSF artillery strike on a mosque in Khartoum.

On a separate note, the SAF disclosed a map illustrating its military control alongside RSF-held territories, emphasizing ongoing conflicts between the factions. The SAF stated its mission is to eliminate militias and restore security to Sudan, supported by the populace.

The map, which indicates SAF-controlled regions in green and RSF territories in red, includes major states such as Northern, River Nile, and Gezira. The military has been reclaiming territories since early 2024, notably regaining control in Omdurman and parts of Khartoum, thus shifting the power dynamics in the conflict.

The fighting, now nearly two years old, has led to immense casualties, displacing over 15 million individuals and resulting in a severe humanitarian crisis, including widespread famine. The ongoing turmoil has devastated Sudan’s healthcare system, complicating casualty verification efforts.

The recent airstrikes by the SAF on Tora market have escalated tensions between the paramilitary RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, driving a significant rise in civilian casualties. The international community continues to express concern over the humanitarian crisis, as the conflict remains unresolved and continues to impact millions. The SAF’s recent territorial gains suggest a shifting balance of power, yet many areas remain volatile and under RSF control, exacerbating the situation.
