Vice President Jeremiah Koung endorses Samuel Kogar for Nimba County’s upcoming by-election on April 22, 2025. This election follows the death of influential Senator Prince Johnson. Koung emphasizes the need for balance in representation between the Mah and Dan ethnic groups.
Nimba County’s Vice President Jeremiah Koung has publicly endorsed Samuel Kogar from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) for the upcoming April 22, 2025 by-election. This election follows the passing of former Senator Prince Johnson, the MDR founder. Recently, the National Elections Commission (NEC) disclosed eight preliminary candidates for the election.
During a phone call broadcast through local community radio stations, Koung affirmed Kogar as the appropriate successor to Johnson. He mentioned his intention to support Mack Gblinwon of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) in a separate future election but firmly stated his preference for Kogar in this context.
Koung appealed to the Mah people of Nimba, requesting them to allow the Dan people to participate in this election, emphasizing stability and balance in representation. He urged, “I think the Mah people should leave this election for the Dan people since we already have a Mah Senator… it will be in our interest.”
This endorsement clarifies Koung’s position after a prior hesitation in endorsing any candidate during last year’s by-election when Nyan Twanyen succeeded him as senator upon his ascent to the vice presidency.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar signifies a critical step in the Nimba County by-election following the late Senator Prince Johnson’s death. Koung’s call for representation balance between the Mah and Dan people underlines the broader significance of unity for county stability, demonstrating his commitment to local governance and community interests.
