The World Health Organization (WHO) will conduct a virtual candidates’ forum for the election of the next Regional Director for Africa on April 2, 2025, from 09:30 to 16:00 Brazzaville time. This initiative, endorsed by WHO Member States in the region, aims to enhance electoral transparency. Honourable Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Liberia’s Minister of Health, will preside over the forum.
Candidates are given a platform to elaborate on their qualifications and vision for enhancing WHO’s objectives in the African Region. The four candidates, listed alphabetically by country, are: Dr. Michel N’d’a Konan Yao (Cote d’Ivoire), Dr. Mohamed Lamine Dramé (Guinea), Professor Janabi Mohamed Yakub (United Republic of Tanzania), and Professor Moustafa Mijiyawa (Togo).
Each candidate will present for 20 minutes, followed by a question and answer session. Member States can submit their questions by March 26, 2025. Questions will be randomly picked to ensure an impartial and fair system, with candidates allowed three minutes for responses.
To facilitate the process, a clock will be displayed during the interviews, adhering to strict time limits. The event will also be livestreamed in English, French, and Portuguese across WHO Regional Office for Africa social media and website.
