Ukrainian Delegation for Upcoming US Meeting in Saudi Arabia Revealed

The Ukrainian delegation, featuring Defense Minister Umerov and Deputy Head Palisa, will meet US officials in Saudi Arabia on March 24. The meeting aims to further discussions on a ceasefire following a previous agreement between Russia and Ukraine on a partial ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure attacks.

Sky News has reported that Ukraine and the United States are set to convene for a meeting in Saudi Arabia next week, with a delegation from Ukraine led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Umerov’s counterpart, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa, is also expected to participate in the negotiations with the US.

The precise schedule for this meeting remains to be confirmed; however, it is anticipated that the Ukrainian delegation will depart on the evening of Sunday, March 23, and negotiations will commence on Monday, March 24.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a technical meeting between Ukrainian officials and American representatives is scheduled for March 24. Notably, on the same day, a separate meeting between US and Russian officials will occur in Saudi Arabia as well.

Previous discussions between Ukraine and the US in Saudi Arabia lasted around nine hours and focused on achieving a comprehensive ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, a step which Ukraine was open to. The upcoming meeting follows Russia’s agreement to a partial ceasefire, which entails a 30-day pause in attacks targeting energy infrastructure, though more specific details remain to be finalized.

The upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and US officials, led by Defense Minister Umerov and Deputy Head Palisa, is critical as it follows previous negotiations aimed at establishing a ceasefire with Russia. The discussions highlight ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation and address contentious points surrounding energy infrastructure attacks. This meeting’s outcomes could significantly influence future negotiations in the region.
