Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is poised to become Namibia’s first female president, set to be inaugurated on Friday. She won the presidential election in November 2024 with 57% of the vote, as confirmed by the Supreme Court. Nandi-Ndaitwah succeeds Nangolo Mbumba, who briefly filled the role following Hage Geingob’s passing earlier this year.
Previously, Nandi-Ndaitwah made history as Namibia’s first female vice president and was recently elected as the head of the Swapo party. Her administration aims to implement economic growth, enhance agriculture and water management, empower youth, and improve housing conditions.
She noted that her administration’s plan emerged from the Swapo election manifesto, which includes addressing necessary amendments to laws like the Land Act. The Land Bill draft is complete and awaiting tabling in the National Assembly.
Food security is a priority within her governance framework, targeting to utilize 130,000 hectares of land for production over five years. Nandi-Ndaitwah has visited several agricultural projects and emphasized the importance of effectively managing land to increase productivity.
Also, she expressed her intent to form a committed cabinet to support her goals. According to her, effective governance requires a balance between various branches of state to achieve optimal service delivery.
