The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement condemned the enforced disappearance of activist Taiib Laghari, allegedly abducted by the ISI. JSFM asserts his abduction is part of a systematic oppression of Sindhi activists. They also highlight the environmental impact of illegal canal constructions diverting water from Sindh to Punjab. The movement has called for international intervention regarding these issues.
On March 21, the Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) condemned the enforced disappearance of activist Taiib Laghari, allegedly abducted by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, on January 26. His whereabouts remain unknown, raising alarm among his family and Sindhi nationalists.
JSFM characterized Laghari’s abduction as part of a systematic oppression against Sindhi activists. In their statement, they criticized Pakistan for routinely disappearing activists, journalists, and human rights defenders to stifle calls for justice and self-determination. They emphasized that this is a significant issue affecting many advocates in Sindh.
Furthermore, JSFM highlighted environmental and economic injustices faced by the Sindhi people. They accused the Pakistani government of illegally constructing six canals on the Indus River, diverting water to Punjab, thereby threatening the livelihoods of millions of Sindhis who depend on this water for agriculture.
Concerns over human rights and environmental issues were further underscored by a protest outside the Pakistan Embassy in London on March 15, 2025. The World Sindhi Congress organized this demonstration to draw attention to both the canal construction and the plight of abducted Sindhi nationalists. JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro attended and spoke against Pakistan’s actions, advocating for justice.
Abro stated, “We demand the immediate release of Taiib Laghari and all forcibly disappeared Sindhi activists,” stressing accountability for enforced disappearances and cessation of illegal canal constructions. He called for recognition of the Sindhi nation’s self-determination rights.
JSFM urged international organizations such as the United Nations and Amnesty International to intervene regarding Pakistan’s alleged human rights violations. Their statement emphasized, “Sindh is under attack–its people are being abducted, and its water is being stolen.” They reinforced their commitment to striving for a free and just Sindhudesh.
The JSFM’s condemnation of Taiib Laghari’s disappearance spotlights the broader issue of enforced disappearances and oppression of Sindhi activists by the Pakistani state. The organization’s call for international action underscores the urgent need for accountability and recognition of Sindhi rights. As concerns mount over human rights violations, the movement remains steadfast in pursuing justice and self-determination for Sindh.
