Argentina has welcomed the conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations, encouraging both parties’ efforts towards a peaceful resolution. However, Azerbaijan has launched disinformation campaigns and imposed preconditions, complicating the path to peace. Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan remains open to signing the agreement.
Argentina has expressed its approval regarding the conclusion of negotiations for a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In an official statement released on the social media platform X, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry commended both nations for their dedication to achieving a peaceful resolution of their longstanding disputes.
The ministry expressed optimism that these negotiations will foster development and welfare for both countries, contributing to stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. On March 13, it was announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan had successfully concluded their discussions concerning the peace treaty’s terms.
However, shortly after the conclusion of negotiations, controversies arose as the Azerbaijani government initiated a disinformation campaign, accusing Armenia of attacking its military positions. Armenian military officials have denied these allegations and the Azerbaijani government has not provided any supporting evidence. Additionally, the EU monitoring mission in Armenia has also refuted these claims regarding border shootings.
Azerbaijan has put forth preconditions, including demands for constitutional changes in Armenia, based on unfounded accusations that Armenia’s constitution asserts territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani government also called for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s willingness to finalize and sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
Argentina’s reception of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations marks a critical step towards fostering stability in the South Caucasus. Despite the positive momentum, challenges such as disinformation campaigns and unfounded accusations from Azerbaijan complicate the situation. The ongoing commitment from Armenia’s leadership to sign a peace agreement is crucial for potential regional prosperity and security.
