The memo has been sent to border posts, highlighting that Mathibela’s group is opposing the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028 and is organizing protests to address the nation’s economic issues and demand accountability from the government.
In response to these planned protests, State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke stated that any demonstrations against Mnangagwa would be handled swiftly and decisively. The CIO operates under Matuke’s ministry and is overseen by the Office of the President, indicating a high level of governmental concern regarding the protests.
