Potentially supporting this initiative, Trump may appoint Massad Boulos, Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law, as a peace envoy. According to DRC President Félix Tshisekedi, the U.S. could gain mining opportunities in exchange for assistance in resolving the civil war.
In a letter reviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Tshisekedi stated, “Your election has ushered in the golden age for America. Our partnership would provide the U.S. with a strategic advantage by securing critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, copper, and tantalum from the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
