Eddie Jordan, the influential F1 team principal and London Irish co-owner, died at 76 after battling cancer. Known for his vibrant personality and founding Jordan Grand Prix, his legacy includes significant contributions to motorsport and driver development. He is survived by his family, who highlighted his charisma and impact on many people.

Eddie Jordan, the former Formula One team principal and co-owner of London Irish rugby club, passed away at the age of 76. He had been diagnosed with aggressive bladder and prostate cancer, which he initially claimed to have overcome. However, it is reported that the cancer returned aggressively. Jordan died in South Africa, where he spent part of his time.

The Jordan family expressed their grief saying, “EJ brought an abundance of charisma, energy and Irish charm everywhere he went. We all have a huge hole missing without his presence. He will be missed by so many people, but he leaves us with tonnes of great memories to keep us smiling through our sorrow.”

Formula One’s CEO Stefano Domenicali shared, “We are deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan. With his inexhaustible energy he always knew how to make people smile, remaining genuine and brilliant at all times. Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed.”

Jordan founded the Jordan Grand Prix team in 1991, becoming a pivotal figure in F1 during the 1990s. The team celebrated its finest moment in 1998 when Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher achieved a one-two finish at the Belgian Grand Prix and secured third place in the championship within the following year.

However, the team experienced a decline in the 2000s, losing key partnerships and sponsors, ultimately leading to Jordan’s sell-out to Midland in 2005. Born in Dublin in 1948, Jordan remained active in motorsport as a commentator and podcaster, even negotiating notable moves within the sport until his health declined.

Jordan was instrumental in acquiring London Irish and had recently taken up a leadership role with the team. His family announced his passing, noting he died peacefully with family at his side and was actively working until his last days. The family revealed his lasting impact on Formula One and described Jordan as a character who contributed significantly to the sport through driver opportunities and investments across various sectors. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and four children.

Eddie Jordan’s legacy in Formula One and sports extends far beyond his tenure as team principal. His contributions included not only the success of Jordan Grand Prix but also nurturing future talents and his recent endeavors in rugby. His vibrant personality and unwavering energy left a significant mark in motorsport, making him a beloved figure among fans and peers alike.
