Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, a Mnangagwa supporter, has publicly labeled Chiwenga as cruel and unelectable. Despite Chiwenga demanding action against these insults, no measures have been taken so far. In a statement shared with NewZimbabwe.com, GCVSA disclosed they possess detailed knowledge of the assassination plot not only against Chiwenga but also individuals participating in a planned demonstration on March 31.
Ntokozo Msipha, GCVSA’s secretary general, remarked, “We pre-empt and categorically expose the treasonous move to deploy mercenaries imported from Sierra Leone…” He further voiced concerns of foreign interference, warning that those implicated would face dire consequences. Chiwenga is openly contesting Mnangagwa’s extended hold on power, with supporters pushing for Mnangagwa to remain leader until 2030.
War veterans led by Blessed Geza are organizing a protest for March 31, directed against the perceived cronyism in Mnangagwa’s administration. Msipha affirmed support for the upcoming demonstrations as a stand against oppression, stating, “This is not a day of recklessness, but a day of decisive movement by Zimbabweans…” Additionally, he asserted the people’s resilience against government intimidation efforts.
Amidst growing tensions, Msipha warned law enforcement about unlawful orders to harm civilians, reminding them of their duty to the nation rather than the current regime. A press event by war veteran Ethan Mathibela to publicize the protest faced disruptions by unidentified individuals earlier this week, indicating volatile circumstances ahead of the planned events.
