Voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress election in the United States has experienced a significant surge, with participation more than doubling in its first week compared to the 2020 election. This election, held every five years, allows Jews in the US to influence the future of Israel, impact global Jewish communities, and support Zionism, as highlighted in a recent press release.
From March 3 to March 10, 2025, a total of 53,213 votes were cast, reflecting a 122% increase from the 23,938 votes during the same timeframe in 2020. Given this momentum, the election is poised to exceed the previous participation record of 123,575 votes. Notably, just 7,639 votes were cast in the inaugural week of the 2015 election.
The election will elect 152 delegates from the US, making up approximately one-third of the Congress. These delegates will collaborate with international representatives to set the leadership and goals of various organizations, including the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the Jewish Agency for Israel. Their decisions will dictate the allocation of over $1 billion each year to support Israel and Jewish communities globally.
Herbert Block, executive director of AZM, expressed optimism: “We are gratified to see the unprecedented voter participation in the election’s first week… American Jews are showing they are proudly Zionist and are sending a clear message that the stakes for the Jewish and Israeli future are higher than ever.”
This year, a record number of 22 groups representing diverse political, religious, and cultural viewpoints are contesting in the election, a 57% increase from the 14 groups that participated in 2020. More than 2,900 candidates from 43 US states and territories are also running, which is over a 60% increase compared to the previous election.
The 39th World Zionist Congress is scheduled to occur in Jerusalem from October 28 to 30, 2025, following this year’s election.
The voting for the 2025 World Zionist Congress reflects increased engagement among American Jews with participation surpassing previous records. The significant rise in voter turnout and the number of candidates indicates heightened interest in Zionist advocacy. This election will play a crucial role in shaping future Jewish community leadership and the allocation of funds to Israel and Jewish organizations globally.
