Compatriots Florence Boakye and Afia Kumah secured silver and bronze medals, completing a clean sweep for Ghana in this weight class. The event was well-attended, including the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, who was a special guest at the championship held at the Centre Point Mall in Accra.
In the 65kg women’s category, Marie Rose from Benin won gold, while Nigeria’s Adefunke Adeniforo and Ghana’s Mabel Yeboah took silver and bronze, respectively. On the men’s side, Wisdom Abromakyi led another clean sweep for Ghana in the 65kg category, with Daniel Acquah earning silver and Stephen Amoono capturing bronze. Joshua Yeboah represented Ghana in the 90kg men’s category, overcoming Togolese Abdul Razak to win gold.
Togo excelled in the men’s 90+kg category, with Mohammed Ismael defeating his Nigerian competitor for gold. Ghana’s Atindana Adams secured a bronze finish, pleasing local fans despite the strong competition. This event, organized by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, celebrated Ghana’s independence and included teams from Benin, Nigeria, and Togo.
Standing out amongst the competitors, Joshua Yeboah from the Chicken Wing Club dominated his weight class. The event also saw notable dignitaries, including the Vice President of GAF, Dr. Kofi Addo Agyekum, and former Minister Joseph Cudjoe, in attendance. The President of Ghana and Africa Armwrestling, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed satisfaction with the championship’s success. This event was part of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation’s ongoing efforts to promote the sport and discover new talent. Looking ahead, the Kids Armwrestling event is expected to attract a large number of participants in the near future.
