Dina Boluarte, the President of Peru, announced her government’s proactive stance on improving historically neglected regions like Apurimac, Puno, and Huancavelica. During the signing of an addendum for the modernization of Guillermo Diaz de la Vega Hospital, Boluarte emphasized a commitment to reversing the neglect affecting these areas, addressing social justice genuinely rather than politically.
The President reaffirmed the government’s goal to reactivate halted hospital construction due to corruption, highlighting healthcare as a fundamental right for all Peruvians. The modernization project for the Apurimac hospital marks a significant stride in improving the region’s healthcare capabilities and was made possible through collaboration between state entities.
Moreover, Boluarte expressed the importance of unity between the Executive Branch and regional governments to foster stability and complete projects effectively. She pointed out the investment exceeding US$27 million will elevate the hospital from a Level II-2 to Level III-1, enhancing the medical services available.
This upgraded facility will include 105 consultation rooms, 12 operating rooms, and 293 hospital beds, aimed at serving over three million people in Apurimac. According to Boluarte, the project aligns with international quality standards due to its government-to-government arrangement with the UK.
Boluarte also noted that the construction would serve not only Apurimac but also assist in easing overcrowding issues at Cusco’s Antonio Lorena Hospital, which faced delays due to corruption among previous wrongdoers.
Additionally, the President highlighted public support for implementing the death penalty for severe crimes, based on input from regional hearings. Boluarte stressed, “Our government is seriously considering the death penalty…” during discussions on ensuring safety for vulnerable populations.
