Nust and MTC Launch Namibia’s First Bloomberg Finance Lab

Nust, in partnership with MTC and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy, launched the first Bloomberg Finance Lab in Namibia. This initiative aims to empower youth and SMEs, enhancing investment and financial skills. Key stakeholders highlighted its role in bridging theoretical learning with practical application and fostering digital transformation in the financial sector.

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust), in collaboration with Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy, inaugurated the first Bloomberg Finance Lab at Nust. This event took place on Tuesday, marking a significant step in advancing financial education in Namibia.

Emma Kantema-Goamas, Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, emphasized the lab’s potential in enhancing the capabilities of Namibia’s financial professionals. She stated that the lab will empower youth, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and upcoming investment leaders to effectively access funding, manage financial risks, and establish sustainable businesses that can transform the economy.

Erold Naomab, the Vice Chancellor of Nust, expressed pride in the establishment of the Bloomberg Finance Lab, aligning it with the university’s aim of producing skilled graduates ready for the modern economy. He noted that this lab would help connect theoretical knowledge with practical application, enhancing the competitiveness of Nust graduates on an international scale.

Thinus Smit, Chief Financial Officer of MTC, described the lab as both an academic resource and a facilitator for industry advancement. It aims to promote financial inclusion, foster fintech innovation, and improve investment literacy across various sectors. Smit highlighted that the collaboration showcases the significance of digital transformation in enhancing Namibia’s financial landscape.
