Iran has rejected the UN Human Rights Council’s anti-Iran resolution intended to establish a fact-finding mission. Bahreini criticized the hypocrisy of Western nations leading the initiative, condemned US sanctions, and dismissed the legitimacy of the mission, emphasizing Iran’s commitment to multilateralism in human rights.
During the 58th UN Human Rights Council session, Iranian representative Bahreini criticized a proposed anti-Iran resolution aimed at establishing a fact-finding mission. He warned that if passed, Iran might reassess its participation in UN human rights mechanisms.
Bahreini condemned the initiative led by Germany and the UK, accusing them of acting hypocritically due to their own poor human rights records. He noted their support for Israel during the Palestinian crisis, stating that these nations, “with their dark human rights histories, lack the moral authority to lecture others.”
He also attacked the unilateral sanctions from the US and its allies, claiming they have stripped Iranians of their economic, social, and cultural rights. In his address, Bahreini dismissed the legitimacy of the fact-finding mission, labeling its reports as biased and derived from anti-Iranian terrorist sources.
Further, he asserted that Iran does not acknowledge the mandate of the Special Rapporteur or the fact-finding mission, viewing them as instruments for political agendas rather than authentic human rights advocacy. Bahreini concluded by reaffirming Iran’s commitment to human rights and multilateralism, rooted in the nation’s cultural, historical, and religious values.
Iran has firmly rejected UN human rights initiatives criticizing the country, citing accusations of hypocrisy against nations sponsoring the resolutions. Bahreini’s remarks highlight Iran’s refusal to cooperate with what it perceives as politically motivated human rights advocacy, while reiterating its dedication to genuine human rights informed by its cultural values. The situation underscores ongoing tensions between Iran and Western nations regarding human rights practices.
