Ethiopia has confirmed its participation in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, scheduled for September 2025 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The announcement followed a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Barlybay Sadykov, and the Secretary-General of the Ethiopian Inter-Religious Council, Like Tiguhan Tagay Tadele. They discussed enhancing cooperation between the two nations regarding interreligious and intercultural dialogue.

Ambassador Sadykov presented Kazakhstan’s policies on interreligious dialogue and emphasized the significance of the upcoming Congress. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the invitation and reaffirmed his participation, commending Kazakhstan’s dedication to fostering peace, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue.

Ethiopia’s diverse cultural and religious background includes a Christian presence since the 4th century and Islam since the 7th century, forming a population where 44% are Christians, 34% Muslims, and 23% Evangelicals.
