Taiwan Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Delegations from Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes parliamentary delegations from Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands, emphasizing bilateral cooperation and engagement. Delegations will meet government leaders, participate in discussions, and explore Taiwan’s cultural and economic assets, reinforcing ties and support for Taiwan’s international participation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Taiwan has expressed a warm welcome to parliamentary delegations from Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands. These visits signify Taiwan’s strengthening ties with its allies and like-minded partners, highlighting diplomatic engagement in the region.

The Marshall Islands delegation, led by Speaker Brenson Wase, includes senators Bruce Loeak, Jack Ading, and Wilbur Heine. Upon their arrival on July 11, 2024, they were received by Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang and will engage in discussions with President Lai Ching-te and visit other key officials during their six-day trip.

Following this group, the Irish parliamentary delegation, directed by Diarmuid Wilson, deputy chair of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, arrived on July 14, 2024. Their itinerary features meetings with Taiwanese vice president and legislative leaders, as well as cultural tours.

The Guatemalan group, led by Congress President Nery Abilio Ramos y Ramos, arrived on July 15. Their five-day visit includes meetings with President Lai and key institutions such as the Legislative Yuan and the National Police Agency, coupled with tours of economic and cultural sites.

MOFA emphasized Taiwan’s substantial cooperation with the Marshall Islands in infrastructure and medical care, and with Guatemala in agricultural technology and education. The ministry appreciates support from these delegations regarding Taiwan’s participation in international bodies, reiterating its commitment to enhancing relationships with allies and partners.

The visits from the parliamentary delegations reflect Taiwan’s proactive diplomatic strategy to foster international relationships. With a focus on collaboration in various sectors, including infrastructure and education, Taiwan aims to strengthen ties with Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands.
