The Brazilian Grand Prix was reintegrated into the racing calendar in 1992 at Interlagos, with Wayne Rainey securing victory. The series moved to the Nelson Piquet circuit for the Rio GP from 1995 until 2004. Although a return to Brazil was hinted at in 2018, it was not realized until now.
During the recent event, MotoGP stars including Franco Morbidelli and Luca Marini, along with local riders Eric Granado and Diogo Moreira, participated in activities showcasing the circuit. Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna’s chief sporting officer, highlighted the circuit’s suitability for MotoGP while acknowledging necessary improvements before the race.
Ezpeleta expressed satisfaction with the event, stating, “We’re super happy, we think it’s been a great event… a lot of things the circuit has to do in the next 12 months but we’re really happy.” Dan Rossomondo, Dorna’s CCO, also noted the vibrant fan support, emphasizing the communal spirit that sports foster.
Franco Morbidelli remarked on the local enthusiasm for MotoGP, affirming, “People are here for MotoGP coming next year.” Marini commended the circuit’s potential speed, indicating it may host the fastest average speeds on the MotoGP calendar while ensuring an exhilarating experience for fans.
