Hasan Nawaz’s Unfortunate T20I Debut: A Record of Consecutive Ducks

Hasan Nawaz of Pakistan has become the sixth player to register two consecutive ducks in his first two T20I innings. He was dismissed twice by Jacob Duffy during two matches against New Zealand, resulting in significant losses for the team. Despite this setback, Nawaz has a strong track record in earlier formats of cricket.

Hasan Nawaz of the Pakistan cricket team has made headlines for an unfortunate start in T20 International cricket. According to Wisden, he is the sixth player from a full-member nation to achieve two ducks in his first two T20I innings, indicating a rocky debut for the promising opener.

In the first T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch, Nawaz was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Jacob Duffy. This lackluster performance was compounded by the team’s overall struggle, finishing with a mere 91 runs. The situation did not improve in the second T20I on March 18 in Dunedin, where Pakistan scored 135/9 but still lost, with Nawaz again falling to Duffy for a three-ball duck.

With these consecutive ducks, Nawaz finds himself among notable players such as Matthew Sinclair (New Zealand), Joe Denly (England), Imrul Kayes (Bangladesh), Kyle Jarvis (Zimbabwe), and compatriot Arshad Iqbal, who also experienced a similar debut struggle in T20Is.

Born in Islamabad on August 21, 2002, Hasan Nawaz has shown promise as a top-order batter while being included in Pakistan’s second-string squad for the current T20I series in New Zealand. Throughout his career, Nawaz has played 23 T20 matches, accumulating 492 runs at a strike rate of 129.47, including two half-centuries, and also boasts 587 runs in First-Class and 120 in List A cricket.

Hasan Nawaz’s unfortunate entry into T20 International cricket highlights the challenges faced by debut players. His consecutive ducks place him in a rare club of cricketers, while the team’s overall poor performance raises concerns. Nevertheless, Nawaz’s prior achievements in T20 and other formats indicate his potential to recover in future matches.
