On March 12, Cheng Yan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, met with Webster Shamu, Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. They discussed enhancing cooperation and exchanges between the legislative bodies of China and Zimbabwe. Counsellor Zhang Yi also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, Cheng Yan provided updates about recent National People’s Congress (NPC) sessions and elaborated on the concept of whole-process people’s democracy in China. He noted that 2025 will mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, expressing a desire for increased legislative exchanges to fulfill agreements made by the heads of state and outcomes from the FOCAC Beijing summit.
Webster Shamu praised the longstanding trust and friendship between Zimbabwe and China. He underscored the Zimbabwean Parliament’s commitment to strengthening ties and promoting interactions with the NPC, aiming to advance friendly cooperation in various sectors between the two nations.
