Disruption at ZNLWVA Press Conference in Bulawayo

A ZNLWVA press conference in Bulawayo was disrupted by a group claiming venue rights, sparking tension. Chairman Ethan Mathibela reaffirmed police approval for their event. Following the disruption, ZNLWVA plans a protest addressing economic concerns and demands for government accountability.

The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) faced disruption during their press conference in Bulawayo when a group of unidentified individuals claimed they had reserved the venue for another meeting. This group identified themselves loosely as members of Youth Connect but did not provide specific details. Their spokesperson stated, “We are not here to provoke anyone, but we are here for our own meeting. We have our own business to attend to, just like you.”

ZNLWVA chairman Ethan Mathibela indicated that they had received prior approval from the police for the press conference. “We have clearance from the police headquarters. I personally delivered the letter, which was accepted by the Commissioner General,” Mathibela said, expressing dismay at the unexpected interruption.

Following the disruption, Mathibela addressed the media outside under police supervision. An incident occurred where a member of the disrupting group snatched Mathibela’s ZNLWA branded cap, prompting police intervention to remove that individual from the scene.

In light of the chaos, ZNLWVA has informed law enforcement about an upcoming protest scheduled for Thursday, aimed at addressing the ongoing economic crisis. Their demands include accountability from the government, economic freedom, and a call to end corruption, tribalism, nepotism, and ineffective governance.

The ZNLWVA’s press conference was forcibly interrupted by unidentified youths claiming venue ownership, despite having valid police clearance. The chairman, Ethan Mathibela, expressed concerns regarding this disruption while still addressing the media afterward. The association is set to protest soon, appealing for government accountability and reforms to handle pressing economic issues.
