Armenia Denies Ceasefire Violations, Seeks Peace Dialogue with Azerbaijan

Armenia rejects ceasefire violation claims from Azerbaijan and calls for a joint investigation mechanism. The Armenian government emphasizes its commitment to peace and ongoing negotiations for a peace agreement, which Egypt supports. Armenia is also looking to finalize various proposals to enhance bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.

Armenia has rebutted accusations from Azerbaijan regarding ceasefire violations along their border and has called for the establishment of a joint mechanism to investigate these allegations. This request comes after Egypt expressed support for ongoing negotiations toward a peace agreement between the two countries.

In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Armenian government addressed specific claims made by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence about alleged ceasefire violations between March 16 and 18. Armenia’s Defense Ministry conducted an inspection and concluded that those claims were unfounded.

Furthermore, the Armenian Ministry of Defence reminded Azerbaijan of a proposal made on June 22, 2024, to create a joint mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations, to which Azerbaijan has yet to respond positively.

On March 17, Armenia expressed its willingness to investigate the facts behind Azerbaijan’s allegations, provided they are formally communicated. The Prime Minister’s Office stated, “as of this moment, not a single fact or substantiation about ceasefire violation by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia has been conveyed by the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Armenia.”

The Armenian government emphasized that its armed forces have no directive to breach the ceasefire and are committed to a “agenda of peace.” Armenia urged Azerbaijan to commence talks regarding the scheduling and location for signing the peace agreement, noting that the drafted text addresses core issues necessary for peace.

In January 2025, Armenia proposed a written agreement to Azerbaijan regarding railway cargo transportation and mutual arms control, and awaits a favorable response from them. Additionally, Armenia reiterated its commitment to the continued border delimitation process with Azerbaijan.

Egypt has welcomed the steps toward finalizing the draft peace agreement, viewing it as a crucial move towards resolving ongoing conflicts and achieving stability in the South Caucasus region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that the peace agreement would be formally signed at the earliest convenience by both nations, recognizing this moment as the culmination of years of efforts from both parties.

In summary, Armenia firmly denies the allegations made by Azerbaijan regarding ceasefire violations and continues to seek collaborative mechanisms for investigations. Additionally, Armenia expresses its readiness to proceed with peace talks and other collaborative efforts aimed at fostering stability. Egypt’s endorsement of these peace negotiations underscores the significance of the pending agreement to resolve long-standing regional tensions.
