Iran’s national karate team, Team Melli, achieved a commendable third place in the Karate 1-Premier League, finishing behind Japan and Egypt, as reported by Tehran Times. In the Female Kumite -61kg final, Atousa Golshadnezhad managed a narrow victory against Germany’s Khamis Reem, winning 4-3 in a tightly contested match. On the other hand, Fatemeh Saadati faced Japan’s Rina Kodo in the Female Kumite -55kg final, unfortunately losing 4-0.

In the Male Kumite +84kg final, Saleh Abazari was unable to secure a win, falling to Georgia’s Merabi Gelashvili with a score of 5-3. However, Iran celebrated some successes in the bronze medal matches. Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh overcame Croatia’s Ivan Martinca 1-0 in the Male Kumite -75kg event, while Mehdi Khodabakhshi prevailed against the Netherlands’ Brian Timmermans with a score of 3-0 in the Male Kumite -84kg category.

The tournament showcased the skills of 381 karate athletes hailing from 68 countries, held in Hangzhou.
