The School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) has urged technocrats, professionals, and values-driven leaders to enter politics to implement governance reform in Nigeria. This call coincides with the launch of the JoinPolitics campaign, aimed at inspiring capable individuals to replace the current ruling class and restore integrity in governance.
The SPPG’s initiative outlines a goal to train 10,000 new political leaders over the next five years, who are expected to seek elective positions at both State and Federal levels. By doing so, the initiative aims to create a pipeline of a politically competent class characterized by integrity, competence, and capacity.
Dr. Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, the founder and chair of SPPG, emphasized the significance of cultivating leadership rooted in public service rather than personal ambition. She stated that poor governance results from leaders who lack necessary virtues, asserting the importance of developing a new class of leaders who embody ethics and accountability.
CEO Alero Ayida-Otobo pointed out the absence of qualified professionals in politics and highlighted that Nigeria is home to many capable individuals whose expertise is essential for governance. She urged these technocrats to take action, explaining that their engagement is crucial for breaking the cycle of ineffective leadership.
Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, Dean of SPPG, reiterated the organization’s commitment to bridging the leadership gap in Nigeria through an unconventional curriculum that prioritizes integrity and accountability in decision-making. He confirmed that students would gain both knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective political engagement.
The SPPG Class of 2026 offers a rigorous 10-month program taught by world-class faculty that equips participants with real-world political strategies and access to a network of changemakers. The program targets professionals ready to explore political leadership, including technocrats from various sectors.
The application deadline for the SPPG Class of 2026 is August 31, 2025, with scholarships available covering 40 to 100 percent of tuition. Interested candidates can visit the SPPG website for application details.
