O&L is replacing Pick n Pay Namibia with a new brand named Model starting July 1. This shift follows the termination of the franchise agreement. Model aims to offer a unique shopping experience tailored to Namibians, with a full launch set for July 1, 2025. O&L emphasizes commitment to customers and quality in this transition.
Ohlthaver & List Group (O&L) announced on Monday that starting July 1, a new Namibian-owned brand named Model will replace Pick n Pay Namibia. This decision follows O&L’s plan to end its Pick n Pay franchise agreement, which has been in place for 27 years, on June 30, 2025.
Graeme Mouton, Managing Director of Model, indicated that while specific details are not yet revealed, Model aims to offer a unique retail experience with high-quality products tailored to customer preferences. Mouton emphasized that customers can expect a grocery retail environment designed for their needs, promising an inspiring and seamless shopping experience that is distinctly Namibian.
The full launch of Model across Namibia is scheduled for July 1, 2025, with a gradual refurbishment process already underway to create the Model shopping experience. Mouton remarked, “As we take full ownership of our retail future, we invite all Namibians to join us on this exciting journey.”
Sven Thieme, O&L’s Executive Chairman, reflected on the company’s history, stating that the retail journey originated with Model in 1965, and this transition signifies a return to their roots. He noted, “This transition is more than a name change; it is a bold evolution that will redefine how Namibians shop,” reinforcing the commitment to maintaining service continuity while fostering growth and excellence.
The shift from Pick n Pay to Model represents a significant transformation in Namibia’s retail landscape. The initiative, driven by the O&L Group, aims to prioritize local customer needs through innovative shopping experiences while respecting its historical roots. The commitment to delivering high-quality products and exceptional service signals a promising future for Namibian consumers.
