Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, attributes the insecurity in Northern Nigeria to poverty. He made these remarks while visiting the Muslim community in Awka during Ramadan. Obi emphasized his desire to restore Nigeria’s former glory by addressing poverty and investing in education.
Obi urged for substantial investment in the education sector and empowerment initiatives for the youth. He stated that tackling poverty is essential to addressing the rising criminality in the North. In his address to the Muslim community, he emphasized unity, saying all Nigerians desire a peaceful existence regardless of religious differences.
He expressed his commitment to supporting the Muslim community in Anambra, pledging to assist in the rebuilding of a primary school located within a mosque. Additionally, he donated various food items, including canned malt, bottled water, and bags of cooked food to the community.
Gidado Siddiki, leader of the Hausa community and National Deputy Director General of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), acknowledged Obi’s consistent support during Ramadan. He noted Obi’s past efforts, which include renovations of mosques and sponsorship for members to perform Hajj, emphasizing the significance of Obi’s contributions to their community.
