The PNG Expo, scheduled for July 2-3 at the Stanley Hotel, showcases major energy companies, providing networking and business opportunities in the thriving resources sector of Papua New Guinea. Significant developments, such as the Angore gas project, support stable long-term production of LNG, with many exhibitors already committed to the event.
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has become a hub for major players in the energy sector, presenting numerous opportunities for suppliers and contractors. The Papua New Guinea Industrial and Mining Resources Exhibition and Conference (PNG Expo) is set to take place from July 2-3 at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby, designed to facilitate networking and business development within the resources sector. It promises a curated exhibition floor alongside a comprehensive speaker program and various networking events to enhance delegate experiences.
Industry leaders such as Metso, Blackwoods, Sandvik, Dreager, Lincom, and Putzmeister have confirmed their participation, with additional exhibitors anticipated. Notably, TriCab, a provider of high-performance flexible cables, has also renewed its sponsorship for the upcoming year, ensuring continued representation at future events.
The resources industry has historically driven significant economic growth in PNG, with a notable evolution since the early 1900s, producing large quantities of gold, copper, silver, nickel, oil, and gas. The sector is poised for growth, with recent collaborations among companies like Santos, ExxonMobil, Kumul Petroleum Holdings, and others, marking the successful Angore gas development, which has unlocked substantial natural gas resources.
The Angore gas project aims to deliver approximately 350 million standard cubic feet of gas daily, supporting the stability of PNG LNG production, which has been operational since April 2014. The LNG project has already supplied over 83 million tonnes to Asia, with an investment exceeding $19 billion. In celebration, the project commemorated its tenth year in 2024, while consistently surpassing its production capacity.
Santos’ CEO, Kevin Gallagher, emphasized the success at Angore, highlighting the promising gas resources in Hela province and noting that several additional gas developments are underway. By 2026, Associated gas from other fields could boost production significantly, with exploration activities also ongoing at Hides Footwall well, which could add more gas capacity.
Santos’ ongoing advancements in gas field developments, including P’nyang, Muruk, and Juha, indicate a robust pipeline for future production. Gallagher remarked on the advantageous position of Santos and PNG LNG, stating, “We are spoilt for choice with no shortage of healthy upstream development options to keep our LNG infrastructure full.” This landscape significantly boosts interest in the upcoming PNG Expo among industry professionals.
The Papua New Guinea Industrial and Mining Resources Exhibition and Conference (PNG Expo) serves as a crucial opportunity for suppliers and contractors within the booming energy sector. The expo highlights significant developments in PNG’s resources industry, particularly natural gas, which is set to sustain future production. With continual advancements and prospects for expansion, the event has attracted prominent exhibitors and industry leaders, signifying the optimistic outlook for PNG’s energy landscape.
