Recently, reports indicate that under President Trump’s administration, the US plans to impose travel restrictions on 43 countries, categorized into Red, Orange, and Yellow based on severity.
Cambodia is included in the Yellow category, which is the least restrictive. The Red category will see bans on entry for citizens from 11 countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, and North Korea. The Orange category involves heavy visa restrictions for another set of 11 nations, such as Russia and Pakistan.
Countries in the Yellow category, including Cambodia, will have 60 days to address the US administration’s unspecified concerns. Although details on these concerns are unclear, they may relate to the deportation of Cambodian nationals who committed offenses in the US.
Chum Sounry, the foreign ministry spokesperson, reports that no formal notification regarding the visa restriction case has been received, and efforts are being made to gather information diplomatically. He affirms Cambodia’s commitment to cooperating with the US to expedite the repatriation process of Cambodian nationals under removal orders.
