Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP riders Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo secured sixth and eighth places in the Argentina GP Practice, allowing them direct entry into Q2. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo experienced a productive first day at the Gran Premio de Argentina, securing sixth and eighth positions respectively, which guarantees them direct entry into Q2. Their performance during the Friday Practice session at Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo showed significant improvement compared to the morning session.
Rins had a challenging start, finishing FP1 in twelfth due to grip issues. However, as the track conditions improved with more rubber, he gained speed. His best lap time of 1’37.591s, set late in the session, helped him secure sixth place, just 0.296 seconds off the leader.
Quartararo also faced difficulties in FP1, ending in thirteenth place. Nevertheless, he redeemed himself by finishing the Practice session strong, clocking a time of 1’37.818s on lap 20. This performance placed him eighth, 0.523 seconds behind the fastest lap.
The Yamaha team is set for more activity tomorrow with FP2 scheduled from 10:10-10:40 GMT -3, followed by qualifying sessions from 10:50-11:30 and a 12-lap Sprint race at 15:00.
Massimo Meregalli, Yamaha’s Team Director, acknowledged the tricky start due to low grip and wet patches on the track. He noted that the team made adjustments that allowed both riders to secure strong lap times and achieve their goal of getting both into Q2.
Rins expressed satisfaction with the day’s results, highlighting the importance of entering Q2 and the potential for further improvements. Quartararo also found the day challenging but emphasized that qualifying for Q2 was crucial as they continue to work on enhancing rear grip for the upcoming sessions.
