Noronex Limited has acquired two prospecting licenses in Botswana, adjacent to its Namibian Damara copper project, covering nearly 1500 square kilometers in the Kalahari Copper Belt. The licenses are intended for exploration of the D’Kar Formation. Noronex Limited has received two strategic prospecting licenses in Botswana, situated on the Namibia-Botswana border and continuous with its Damara copper project in Namibia. These licenses encompass nearly 1500 square kilometers of unexplored territory within the Kalahari Copper Belt, specifically targeting the prospective D’Kar Formation along the basin margin.
The newly acquired licenses consist of two sections measuring 721.87 and 745.40 square kilometers. Noronex will transfer these licenses to its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tilodi Metals Botswana. The company expresses confidence in their potential, particularly reinforced by Cobre Limited’s recent BHP earn-in deal, which acknowledges the Kalahari Copper Belt’s prospects.
Noronex has conducted drilling at its Otjiuapehuri prospect, located approximately 3km from the new licenses, and is awaiting laboratory results from its seven holes drilled this year. Despite strong structural trends noted across the border, the region’s geological features remain poorly understood due to a lack of previous drilling.
Following the necessary environmental approvals, Noronex intends to start an orientation geochemical sampling program on the new ground. Initial expectations suggest the area could be covered by 10 to 80 meters of Kalahari sands, with some locations directly adjacent to Cobre Limited’s Thul prospect.
Cobre Limited has recently entered an earn-in agreement with BHP Group, allowing BHP to earn a 75% interest in the Kitlanya projects through expenditures of up to $25 million over eight years. The first $5 million will be spent on deep diamond drilling and seismic surveys starting in April.
Increased international interest in the Kalahari Copper Belt is evident as Noronex continues to decode the complex geology of the area. The outcomes of their forthcoming geochemistry tests will be crucial to inform subsequent exploration steps. Additionally, the company plans to expand its drilling activities at the Fiesta target area of its Namibian Humpback project, building on previous promising results from January.
