Doyo Hassani Announces Presidential Candidacy for Tanzania 2025

Doyo Hassani has declared his intention to run for the Tanzanian presidency in 2025, challenging incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and ACT-Wazalendo’s Dorothy Semu. His ten priorities include tackling unemployment, promoting education, and combating corruption. Support from family and campaign managers indicates serious intentions, with nomination processes set for March and April 2025.

Mr. Doyo Hassani, a member of the Nation League for Democracy (NLD), has publicly announced his candidacy for the presidency of Tanzania in the upcoming October 2025 elections. This declaration pits him against incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan, endorsed by the ruling CCM, and ACT-Wazalendo’s presidential aspirant, Ms. Dorothy Semu. The announcement took place on Friday, March 14, 2025, during a press conference in Morogoro.

Doyo outlined ten key priorities, asserting that they directly address significant national challenges. Among the major issues he pledged to focus on are reducing unemployment, promoting education, revolutionizing agriculture, and enhancing livestock management. Additionally, he aims to improve water resources, tackle tax evasion and corruption, and encourage responsible taxation culture.

In his statement, Mr. Doyo emphasized, “If I’m nominated as the presidential flag bearer for my party, I will focus on closing tax evasion loopholes, fighting corruption, and building a tax-paying culture at all levels of society.” Other priorities include strengthening the mining sector, improving access to technology, promoting education for girls, and reinforcing the union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

Support for Mr. Doyo’s candidacy was echoed by his wife, Ms. Halima Rajabu, who praised his dedication, describing him as hardworking and capable of leading the nation. She emphasized the importance of addressing youth employment and the health sector, stressing the need for accountability regarding corruption in government projects.

Ms. Rajabu also commended former leaders of Tanzania for their strong stance against public resource embezzlement, acknowledging President Hassan’s leadership adjustments to meet developmental challenges. Mr. Doyo’s campaign manager, Mr. Twaha Saidi Mngatwa, indicated plans for Mr. Doyo to submit his application to the NLD by March 21, 2025. The internal nomination process is scheduled for April 10, 2025, to select the candidate for the presidential election, pending approval from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Doyo Hassani’s candidacy for the Tanzanian presidency in 2025 highlights significant issues such as unemployment, education, and corruption. His initiatives aim to enhance various sectors, reflecting national challenges. Support from his wife and campaign manager underscores his commitment and intentions, with expectations for a thorough nomination process in the coming months. As the election approaches, his priorities will likely shape the political discourse in Tanzania.
