Yango’s Impact in Cameroon: Job Creation and Expansion Plans

Yango has established over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since its 2021 launch and reports over 150,000 active users. The company expanded to Bafoussam in 2025, with plans for further growth and service enhancements. Although it faced some challenges, Yango aims to improve urban mobility and create more job opportunities.

Yango, the ride-hailing service launched by Yandex, reports the creation of over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since its debut in 2021. Clovis Pilla, Yango’s Country Manager, emphasized that the platform functions as more than just a transportation app; it is integral to the nation’s digital and economic advancement. Additionally, the platform collaborates with over 150 transport companies in Cameroon, further fostering job creation.

With operations beginning in Douala and Yaoundé, Yango expanded its reach to Bafoussam on March 5, 2025. This expansion marks Yango’s commitment to providing effective and cost-efficient transport solutions throughout Cameroon and is expected to create more employment opportunities in the area.

The launch in Bafoussam is part of Yango’s broader strategy to grow its operations. The company has secured a five-year renewal of its operating license, with plans to further extend its services to more cities and introduce new offerings, although specific locations have yet to be disclosed.

As of now, Yango has amassed 150,000 active monthly users in Cameroon. Despite facing challenges, including a suspension of services in February 2023 due to licensing problems, the company resumed operations seven months later. Yango remains focused on enhancing urban transport solutions in Cameroon, a country where reliable public transport options can be lacking.

Yango’s operations in Cameroon have significantly impacted the job market, creating strong employment opportunities while also enhancing urban mobility. The expansion into Bafoussam signifies ongoing growth and the company’s ambitious plans for the future. Overall, Yango aims to solidify its role as a leading player within Cameroon’s transport sector, addressing the needs of a growing user base.
