The Lithuanian Consulate has issued a warning to Sri Lankan digital platforms regarding fraudulent cryptocurrency advertisements that falsely feature high-profile figures, including Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. Director Kanchana Kodituwakku identified these ads as being linked to purported Lithuanian entities and aiming to deceive Sri Lankan citizens. The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed these misleading campaigns that exploit trust and pose a transnational risk.
To combat this issue, the Lithuanian Consulate has undertaken multiple actions: it has reached out to the Lithuanian Embassy to convey concerns, sought clarification on the alleged ties to fraud, and engaged with Sri Lankan government agencies for cooperation in investigations. The consulate has also emphasized the need for improved international collaboration and urged social media platforms, especially Meta, to strengthen controls against fraudulent content.
In a statement, Kodituwakku condemned such fraudulent activities, affirming the consulate’s commitment to protecting both Sri Lankan and Lithuanian interests. The consulate will continue to monitor the situation and work with local authorities to provide necessary updates.
Furthermore, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) have committed to supporting Sri Lanka’s pursuit of economic growth through fair competition. Their discussions highlighted the importance of trade fairness in protecting consumers and producers, fostering market competitiveness, and encouraging innovation.
The Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka acknowledged budget adjustments focused on reforms for fair trade and increasing market standards. He held a meeting with representatives from JICA and JFTC to outline these intended improvements.
Students from various schools, such as Hambantota St. Mary’s and Nalanda College, visited the Presidential Secretariat and the President’s House as part of a field trip, where they learned about the Clean Sri Lanka initiative designed for national development.
In matters of flooding, the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, has mandated various ministries to implement urgent measures to alleviate flooding risks in the Matara District due to heavy rainfall. Solutions discussed include studying long-term strategies and undertaking short-term actions to ensure optimal water drainage clearance.
