In Thailand, the European Parliament condemned the deportation of Uyghur refugees to China and criticized the enforcement of the lese-majesty law. MEPs urged Thailand to prevent future deportations of individuals at risk and reform the lese-majesty law, expressing the need to release political prisoners and ratify essential International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.
Further measures include granting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) full access to detained Uyghur asylum seekers. The resolution emphasizes the importance of enhancing human rights standards in Thailand, including granting amnesty to persecuted parliamentarians and activists. MEPs also stressed the suspension of extradition treaties with China until fundamental rights for the deported Uyghurs are guaranteed.
In Sudan, MEPs called for an immediate cessation of hostilities amidst a grave humanitarian crisis marked by widespread sexual violence and child rape. They emphasized adherence to the Jeddah Declaration and urged secure access for humanitarian aid to the millions affected by the conflict.
The European Parliament condemned violence against civilians and insisted on accountability for those responsible for these atrocities. It recommended sanctions against key figures and advocated for enhanced humanitarian support and protections for vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
Regarding Azerbaijan, the EP denounced the illegal detention of Armenian hostages, urging their release and demanding fair trials and appropriate medical aid for prisoners. MEPs advocated for the reopening of UN and International Committee of the Red Cross offices and monitoring of trials by EU embassies.
The parliament called for sanctions on officials implicated in human rights abuses and requested the International Criminal Court to look into ethnic cleansing allegations against the Armenian population. Additionally, MEPs proposed that the EU suspend the EU-Azerbaijan energy memorandum until human rights improvements are achieved.
