The meetings occurred in Doha, where Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. This dialogue followed the initiation of new negotiations to advance the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The talks emphasized restoring humanitarian aid to Gaza and addressing the pressing humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people, as highlighted in an Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement. Additionally, the two officials revisited the results of the recent extraordinary Arab summit on Gaza held in Cairo and an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting that took place in Jeddah.
They also discussed the implementation of a comprehensive Arab reconstruction plan for Gaza, which aims to secure necessary funding and avoid displacing residents. This plan, estimated at around $53 billion, is designed to span five years.
This initiative follows the rejection of former US President Donald Trump’s proposal, which suggested the ethnic-cleansing-like displacement of Palestinians for Gaza’s development. Since October 2023, approximately 50,000 individuals, predominantly women and children, have suffered fatal consequences from the ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza. A temporary ceasefire facilitated a prisoner swap agreement starting in January.
