Bangladesh Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier Squad Announced, Murshida Khatun Dropped

Murshida Khatun has been dropped from the Bangladesh squad for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier, with Ishma Tanjim included. Jannatul Sumona and Ritu Moni return, enhancing the team. Bangladesh missed direct qualification and will compete in Lahore from April 5 to 19 against several teams, starting with Thailand on April 10.

Murshida Khatun has been removed from the Bangladesh national team for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier set to take place in Lahore, Pakistan, from April 5 to 19. The Bangladesh Cricket Board made the announcement on Wednesday, highlighting Murshida’s struggles with the bat in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Women’s Cricket League, where she accumulated only 110 runs across eight innings.

In her place, uncapped batter Ishma Tanjim has been included in the squad. Additionally, off-spinner Jannatul Sumona and all-rounder Ritu Moni return to the team. Ishma has demonstrated strong performance in the WDPL, scoring 336 runs at an average of 48. Jannatul Sumona has been impressive as the league’s leading wicket-taker, securing 21 wickets at an average of 14.33, while Ritu Moni follows closely with 18 wickets.

Bangladesh lost their chance for direct qualification for the World Cup after a 2-1 defeat in an ODI series against the West Indies in January. Consequently, they will participate in the qualifying tournament alongside the West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand, competing for two spots in the eight-team World Cup scheduled in India.

The Bangladesh team will play Thailand on April 10, followed by matches against Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Pakistan. They are scheduled to depart for Lahore on April 3, where they will engage in two warm-up games prior to the official tournament.

Squad Composition:
– Nigar Sultana Joty (Captain)

The Bangladesh national women’s cricket team has undergone significant changes ahead of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier, with the exclusion of Murshida Khatun due to poor performance. In contrast, promising players like Ishma Tanjim and seasoned returnees Sumona and Ritu Moni have been brought into the squad. Bangladesh’s qualification path has been tough, necessitating their participation in the qualifiers after failing to secure a direct spot.
