Petrobras is exploring opportunities in Argentina, progressing offshore projects in Colombia, and has plans for drilling in Africa. The firm is particularly interested in gas from the Vaca Muerta region and aims to increase oil reserves through these international projects.

Brazil’s Petrobras is actively seeking investment opportunities in Argentina while progressing in areas in Colombia and Africa. Sylvia dos Anjos, head of exploration and production, highlighted the potential of utilizing a pipeline linking Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil to transport gas from the Vaca Muerta region. This exploration is part of Petrobras’s strategy to replenish its oil reserves amid challenges in obtaining environmental licenses in Brazil.

In Colombia, Petrobras is developing an offshore project where substantial gas reserves of 6 trillion cubic feet have been identified, currently awaiting a government license for advancement. Once approved, around 13 million cubic meters of gas per day will be provided to Colombia through the pipeline.

Additionally, in Africa, Petrobras plans to drill exploratory wells between July and August in an oil block it owns in Sao Tome and Principe, with drilling in a South African area anticipated during the latter half of the year, as revealed by Anjos.

Petrobras is strategically expanding its reach by exploring potential opportunities in Argentina, progressing with significant offshore projects in Colombia, and planning exploratory drilling in Africa. With crucial gas reserves in Colombia and the potential for importing gas from Argentina, the company aims to securely bolster its oil reserves despite environmental licensing challenges in Brazil.
