Congress has accused PM Modi of neglecting Manipur by traveling to Mauritius instead of addressing the ongoing ethnic violence. Jairam Ramesh emphasized the PM’s absence is disrespectful to the people of Manipur, especially after the state was put under President’s Rule. Meanwhile, discussions regarding governance and budgetary needs are ongoing in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress party criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur amid ongoing ethnic violence and unrest in the state. They highlighted that this violence has persisted for over a year, prompting calls for the Prime Minister to address the situation directly. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarked that Modi’s choice to travel to Mauritius instead of Manipur is an affront to its citizens.

Ramesh stated, “The people of Manipur continue to wait for a visit by the PM. His refusal to do so for almost two years is really an insult to them.” President’s Rule has been imposed in Manipur following the resignation of BJP leader N. Biren Singh as Chief Minister in early February.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assessed the security situation and has directed security forces to allow free vehicle movement throughout the state starting from March 8. Since May 2023, over 200 lives have been lost due to clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

In other news, the Lok Sabha scheduled a long discussion regarding the approval of President’s Rule in Manipur. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the budget for the region during this session.
