Iraq’s 2025 budget is expected to be finalized and submitted to Parliament before March ends, according to a senior government official. Mudher Mohammad Saleh, the financial and economic advisor to the Prime Minister, confirmed a collaborative understanding among the Parliamentary Finance Committee, the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Finance regarding the budget tables.
Saleh cited Article 77/Second of the 2023 General Budget Law, which mandates the Ministry of Finance to present the annual budget schedules, including any amendments to operating and capital expenditures. He stated that the ministry would submit the 2025 budget tables to the Council of Ministers for approval prior to sending them to Parliament.
The advisor expected that the budget schedules would reach Parliament soon enough to coincide with the conclusion of Ramadan. A member of the Shiite Coordination Framework also indicated that the Ministry of Finance plans to send the budget tables to the Cabinet within this week for discussion and voting.
In summary, Iraq’s 2025 budget is set to be presented to Parliament by the end of March, following a confirmed agreement among key government bodies. The budget preparation complies with legal requirements and is expected to be finalized before the end of Ramadan, with discussions planned in the Cabinet this week.
