Besides her achievements on the field, Opoku won her fourth SWAG Hockey Player of the Year award in January, which she considered life-changing. This recognition opened professional doors, allowing her to join the Ghana Revenue Authority, simultaneously continuing her hockey career. Reflecting on her journey, she highlights the importance of education and the sacrifices made to balance athletics and academics.
Looking ahead, Opoku is eager to develop hockey infrastructure in Ghana and work towards grassroots involvement. “We need more hockey infrastructure… If corporate bodies or the government can invest in more pitches, more people across the country will get involved in the sport,” she remarked, focusing on expanding the sport beyond established areas.
While some see her as a future coach, Opoku prefers to focus on her playing career, learning from her role models like former national captain Ebenezer Frimpong and international star Felice Albers.
