This agreement was made public following a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, as reported by Pakistan’s foreign office.
Over the years, both nations have enhanced their bilateral ties through various initiatives such as annual consultations aimed at promoting cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. These initiatives reflect their commitment to strengthening mutual relations and enhancing economic collaboration.
Notably, in November 2022, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, where he sought climate compensation and debt relief for Pakistan in light of severe flooding experienced in 2022.
During their recent discussions, Dar and Abdelatty expressed satisfaction with the growth of their bilateral relations. The two officials emphasized their shared values and cultural connections, agreeing to deepen cooperation across various domains and increase interactions among their peoples.
Dar and Abdelatty also addressed significant global issues affecting the region, specifically condemning ongoing Israeli violence in the West Bank and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Dar acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in providing aid to Palestinians and its mediation efforts for a temporary ceasefire.
Both leaders reaffirmed their stance against the forced displacement of Palestinians, advocating for the establishment of a viable Palestinian state based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital. Additionally, Dar extended an invitation to Abdelatty for a visit to Pakistan at a mutually agreeable time.
In further discussions, Dar also met with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, evaluating challenges confronting the Muslim world and highlighting the OIC’s role in fostering unity among Muslim nations. Furthermore, Dar conferred with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki, reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the pursuit of a viable Palestinian state.
