The 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship concluded with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel securing multiple titles at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki. The competition featured 64 elite shooters from various organizations, including the KDF Rifle Association, National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, Kenya Regiment Rifle Club, and the British Royal Air Force. Its objective was to enhance marksmanship skills through diverse shooting challenges from 300 to 900 meters.
Participants vied for several prestigious awards, such as the McCallum Cup, Standard Newspaper Cup, and others, all while adhering to a 45-second time limit for essential long-range shooting techniques. This included calculating accurate wind and mirage holds as they adjusted to variable wind conditions. Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema excelled in Class XI, claiming titles in the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and Short Range Aggregate Cup, and earning a bronze in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup.
Other notable performers included Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, who received a silver medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Additionally, shooters like Senior Private Eston Mwangi, Sergeant Michael Mwangi, Sergeant Francis Jillo, and Staff Sergeant Paul Munene showcased remarkable skill. Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Staff Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo were recognized as the tournament’s overall best female shooters.
In total, ten KDF personnel have been selected to represent Kenya at the upcoming Bisley competition in the UK later this year, which highlights the strong performance and marksmanship proficiency demonstrated throughout the championship.
