Ukrainian officials, led by Andrii Yermak, will meet US counterparts in Saudi Arabia. The focus will be on mineral agreements and restoring ties after previous tensions. President Zelenskyy’s commitment to peace and effective communication is emphasized, with meetings scheduled for March 12, involving key US officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that four officials, including Andrii Yermak, Head of the President’s Office, will visit Saudi Arabia to engage with American counterparts. This delegation comprises Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Yuliia Svyrydenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, and Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the President’s Office.
The talks aim to formalize an agreement on minerals and strengthen ties with Washington after prior tensions between President Zelenskyy and Donald Trump. The meetings are scheduled to occur following a confirmed meeting between Zelenskyy and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on March 10.
Following their engagement with the Crown Prince, the Ukrainian officials will remain in Saudi Arabia for discussions with the US delegation. This group is expected to include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
Zelenskyy emphasized the Ukrainian commitment to a productive dialogue, stating, “On our side, we are fully committed to constructive dialogue, and we hope to discuss and agree on the necessary decisions and steps. Ukraine has been seeking peace from the very first second of this war. Realistic proposals are on the table. The key is to move quickly and effectively.”
These negotiations, set for March 12, will focus on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Reports indicate that Yermak will lead the delegation, with potential participation from Defence Minister Rustem Umierov. The outcome of these meetings may influence future diplomatic relations and military support for Ukraine.
The upcoming meetings between Ukrainian officials and American counterparts in Saudi Arabia mark a pivotal step in restoring diplomatic relations and negotiating crucial agreements regarding minerals and the Russo-Ukrainian war. With key figures from both nations involved, the discussions aim to foster effective dialogue and cooperation, addressing the ongoing conflict head-on. President Zelenskyy’s commitment to peace underscores the urgency of these talks.
