UAE Condemns Attacks on Syrian Forces by Assad Loyalists

The UAE condemned attacks by loyalists of the former Syrian regime on Syrian forces, reaffirming its support for Syria’s stability and sovereignty. Clashes in Jableh resulted in multiple army casualties, while a military council aimed at overthrowing the government was announced. Assad’s regime has ended, and a transitional leader has been appointed.

On Saturday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) publicly condemned recent attacks on Syrian forces by loyalists of the former regime. The UAE Foreign Ministry emphasized its support for Syria’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while expressing solidarity with the Syrian people.

The violence erupted as military and security forces from various regions of Syria gathered on Thursday to counter significant assaults by these loyalists in the coastal town of Jableh, leading to 11 casualties among Syrian army members.

Gayyas Delle, a commander linked to the ousted regime, announced a new military council aimed at overthrowing the current government, indicating continued unrest in the country. Bashar Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on December 8, effectively ending an era of Baath Party rule that began in 1963.

Recently appointed transitional leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, a figure in the anti-regime uprising, was declared president on January 29, signifying a pivotal change in Syria’s governance.

The UAE has firmly condemned the assaults on Syrian forces by Assad loyalists, reiterating its commitment to Syria’s stability and sovereignty. The formation of a military council by former regime forces, alongside significant violence resulting in army casualties, illustrates the ongoing turmoil as leadership transitions take place following Assad’s departure. The situation remains critical as the new transitional government seeks to establish control amid these challenges.
