Kuwait’s Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) have entered a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corporation. This collaboration aims to accelerate digital transformation and enhance AI applications in the nation, consistent with Kuwait Vision 2035. Minister Omar Saud Abdul-Aziz Al-Omar emphasized the government’s commitment to turning Kuwait into a regional AI hub during a press conference after the signing ceremony.
The AI partnership is a significant step towards utilizing AI to support the government’s goals for economic diversification and innovation growth. Al-Omar highlighted that it will assist in workforce rehabilitation, enhancing information technology skills, and preparing individuals for leadership roles in the sector. He noted that the initiative aligns with the directives of senior Kuwaiti leadership, including His Highness the Amir and the Prime Minister.
Key initiatives of the partnership include establishing an AI data center, creating an integrated AI system, and developing a digital economy promotion center. A cloud auditing center will also be launched. Furthermore, the Kuwaiti government plans to provide civil servants with access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, positioning Kuwait among the first in the region to implement these advanced tools aimed at improving productivity and state services.
According to Al-Omar, the development of cloud auditing facilities and enhanced digital infrastructure will play a crucial role in attracting global investors while fostering entrepreneurship. Samer Abu-Ltaif, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for the region, indicated that the partnership would not only improve Kuwait’s digital infrastructure but also enhance its economic prospects and sustainability. Additionally, Microsoft plans to collaborate with the Kuwaiti government on the Cybersphere initiative, designed to bolster cybersecurity across government sectors.
