Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has voiced strong objections to the recent cooperation agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, branding it a betrayal of the Kenyan populace. In response to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) unveiled on Friday, Kalonzo emphasized that the opposition coalition remains dedicated to advocating for the citizens’ rights.
In a post on X (previously Twitter), Kalonzo remarked, “What has come out of KICC today is the biggest betrayal of Kenyans. The people’s loyal coalition will never trade its principles for temporary comfort.” He reinforced this commitment while participating in the People’s Dialogue Forum at Uhuru Park, reiterating the opposition’s resolve to work in the best interests of the people.
During his attendance, Kalonzo interacted with participants, including civil society leaders engaged in discussions on national issues. Notable figures like former Chief Justice David Maraga have actively participated in the ongoing forum, which wraps up on Saturday.
Last month, Kalonzo encouraged Raila to reconsider any support for the government and instead align with the opposition for the nation’s liberation. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a significant figure within the opposition, also cautioned Raila against collaborating with Ruto. Despite this, during his visit to Wajir County, Raila rejected the notion of joining forces with Gachagua, citing distrust from previous statements made against him.
On Friday, Ruto and Raila formalized their agreement through a MoU that aims to address ten critical national issues, notably focusing on corruption. They advocated for the complete execution of the Nadco report, a result of prior bipartisan discussions. However, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah expressed strong resistance against the implementation of this report, labeling it as a threat to the nation’s future during the dialogue forum.
