The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has announced advancements in discussions with the United States regarding a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). This BTA aims to enhance trade in goods and services between the two nations, improve market access, reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, and bolster supply chain integration.
During a visit by Prime Minister Modi to the US in February 2025, both countries expressed intentions to negotiate this mutually beneficial agreement. The Commerce and Industries Minister also met with US counterparts, facilitating these trade discussions further.
In relation to the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a key suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that efforts are underway to secure his return to India, in coordination with the US government. He referenced prior comments made by President Trump highlighting the importance of this extradition.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Mauritius on March 11-12 to serve as the chief guest at the nation’s national day celebrations. The visit, upon invitation from Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, will also feature participation from an Indian defense forces contingent during the celebrations.
India and the US are making progress on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement aimed at enhancing trade and reducing barriers. Simultaneously, efforts for the extradition of Tahawwur Rana are being closely coordinated with the US. Furthermore, PM Modi’s upcoming visit to Mauritius underscores India’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties in the region.
