Civix Chosen for Pennsylvania’s Comprehensive Election System Update

Pennsylvania has chosen Civix to implement a new election management system to enhance election security and efficiency. The system will replace outdated technologies and is set for full implementation by 2028. This decision aligns with a broader trend among states to modernize election systems.

Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt announced that Civix has been selected to implement a new election management system in Pennsylvania. This system aims to enhance election accuracy and security, streamline voter registration, and improve ballot tracking. The implementation will occur in phases, with full integration expected by 2028.

By choosing Civix, Pennsylvania joins several other states, such as Georgia and Texas, in modernizing its election systems. Schmidt emphasized, “The Shapiro Administration prioritized procuring this contract as part of its continuing commitment to secure elections.” He highlighted the system’s importance for the state’s 67 county boards of elections and constituents.

The new Civix system will replace the existing Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE) and other reporting systems, such as Election Night Reporting (ENR). It will provide voters with access to information on registered voters, upcoming elections, and election data. The public portal will allow residents to obtain support and guidance while offering location-specific election data through a “My County” feature.

Integration of the campaign finance website into the new system will allow transparency by showcasing campaign finance reports from various political entities. Civix was chosen from seven proposals in a competitive bidding process initiated in May 2024. A team of experts evaluated each proposal to ensure the best fit for Pennsylvania’s needs.

CEO Phillip Braithwaite stated, “Civix is proud to partner with Pennsylvania… to implement a scalable, secure, and adaptable system that meets the evolving needs of voters.” He emphasized the need for modernized election systems as crucial for enhancing transparency and efficiency in election administration.

The selection of Civix to implement Pennsylvania’s new election management system represents a significant upgrade aimed at improving election security and efficiency. With a phased implementation plan leading to 2028, the system will replace outdated technologies and enhance transparency through a user-friendly public portal. This move aligns Pennsylvania with other states prioritizing modernized election management systems to better serve voters.
